Strengthening Thematic Hadith Literacy in Building Social and Religious Harmony in the Community
Abstract
This Community Service (PkM) program, entitled “Strengthening Thematic Hadith Literacy in Building Social and Religious Harmony in the Community,” aims to strengthen the community’s ability to understand and apply hadith thematically in addressing contemporary social and religious issues. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, interactive lectures, thematic hadith literacy training, group discussions, case studies, mentoring, and evaluation. The training focused on selected hadith themes related to tolerance, brotherhood, mutual respect, social responsibility, justice, peaceful coexistence, and religious moderation. Participants were trained to identify relevant hadith, examine their sources and meanings, compare related narrations, and contextualize their messages within contemporary community life. The results showed that participants developed a better understanding of thematic hadith and demonstrated increased awareness of the importance of applying prophetic values in building harmonious social relations. The program also strengthened participants’ critical attitudes toward religious information and encouraged more respectful responses to differences in religious understanding. Therefore, thematic hadith literacy can serve as an effective community empowerment strategy for strengthening religious moderation, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence in a diverse society.
